From the Founder: Welcome to the Official Family Reunion Planning Month resource.
This movement began back in 2005. A family reunion planning group headed by Mark Angelo Askew say the need to education local household regarding the importance of building self- esteem by means of family interests including documenting special occasions, enjoying family crafts, documenting family history and using these projects to enjoy meaningful family time.

About The Movement

As founder of the Family Reunion Planning movement it is a pleasure to invite you to join us in this important endeavor to rebuild our most precious basic unit of society, the traditional family unit. While many families enjoy both father and mother living in the home, others have learned to adjust to single parent households. That said, many households may struggle with identity and suffer from a lack of understanding of thier roles in the home. Still all households can uphold good standards for the betterment of the family and society at large. A key to doing this is introducing them to the discoveries made possible by means of family reunion. Reconnecting with the family of the present and the past.

What Family Reunion Means

Sons especially have a strong need to know they have many fathers. This can be accomplished by helping them to connect with their forefathers of old and embrace proud moments of their history. Sons and daughters make peace with their past, learn to love themselves and discover their role in the household. This often prevents them from becoming vulnerable to predators and self-distructive behavior.  In time they will see themselves as the builder of a promising future while enjoying the supportive benefits of the immediate and extended family.

Family reunion is not limited to blood lines. Those who have played a key role in promoting happiness and the neccessary provisions for the sustenance and education of others are an integral part of the Family Reunion Planning Month movement. It is a time to search for and reunite with those you have supported and those from whom you have recieved support.

I am pleased to say that many individuals and groups are joining the movement. Please join us by promoting Family Reunion Planning Month within your personal, community, business and corporate social network and provide a link to any part of this resources.

History of The Family Reunion
According to the family reunion institute at Temple University the family reunions are an important function of society in that the event instills a sense of belonging and concern, transmitting a sense of identity and direction, and strengthening values.

The First Family Reunions
Early family reunion events were marked by deep social, political and emotional impact. Recorded family reunions of the 18th century were often had as a result of having fled war torn areas while enduring and overcoming conditions of incredible human hardship.  After years of being separate from family a time of peace and the means to travel abroad enabled thousands of families to reunite in celebration. Family reunions then became annual events for domestic, business and social reasons. View a list of family reunion records, websites and blogs on the web here.

Cultural Renaissance
Today young and old are are being drawn into a genealogy cultural renaissance, researching old records, writing poetry and telling  stories of family legends. Often family members are inspired to perform historical skits at the annual reunions and thus building a strong sense of the family's heritage.

Planning Your Family Reunion
Planning a traditional family reunion is an enriching experience coupled with many opportunities to draw the family together before the actual event. The planning stages of the family reunion are not unlike planning a wedding or Anniversary celebration. Still there are unique aspects of a traditional family reunion that are essential to uniting and empowering the family unit as well as highlighting it's lineage, culture and history.
